Medicaid Sponsorship Program

As midwives, we believe strongly in transparency. Our desire for creating this program is to diversify our practice as well as help empower women to access out of hospital birth who otherwise may not be able to. We also recognize that specific groups of women and babies, such as those who self-identify as women of color, LGBTQ individuals, or those with cognitive or physical disabilities may be significantly more likely to be recipients of poor maternity care that results in alarmingly subpar outcomes due to the inherent biases that exist within our culture and healthcare system.

In developing this sponsorship program, we wish to convey our desire to be intersectional allies--to recognize our own privilege and support women who face barriers that are different from the ones we face, to create a space that is safe for listening, sharing, and changing, and to be intentional about the words and actions that we use.

The purpose of this worksheet is to help Fika Midwifery choose candidates to sponsor whose insurance would not otherwise cover the full cost of out of hospital birth. A select number of candidates each month can plan to give birth at the Coit House and enroll in Fidelis Medicaid Managed Care plan in order to qualify for our sponsorship program.

Medicaid pays about $1,500 of our $6,000 flat rate. Typically the $4,500 is balance billed to the patient. This sponsorship reduces, or may entirely waive, the remaining balance based on a suggested income guideline chart (please find this chart attached). You will know upon acceptance in the sponsorship program exactly what, if any, out of pocket cost you will incur.
