About Fika Midwifery

Fika Midwifery, the only midwife-owned private practice in Western New York, is currently a practice of three midwives that provides holistic women’s health care, prenatal and postpartum care, and both home and hospital birth. As a midwife at Fika Midwifery, you will have an opportunity to provide home birth and birth at Buffalo’s oldest home, The Coit House.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be supportive of full-spectrum reproductive choices and will be comfortable navigating the art of balancing evidence based practice, community and professional standards, and the rights of women to choose their birth location and team. Specifically, comfort with out of hospital birth, including home birth after cesarean, is necessary.  Furthermore, the right midwife will be engaged in the powerful role that midwives have always played in supporting physiologic birth and will confidently undertake the role of supporting consent, choice, and shared decision-making amongst systems such as hospitals and insurers who do not always support these ideologies.

The city of Buffalo has recently experienced a resurgence like many other rustbelt cities. Several neighborhoods within the city of Buffalo offer the amenities of larger cities, including walkability, excellent cuisine options, and a diversity of small businesses, without the high price tag. Buffalo has a vibrant art and music scene, several farmers’ markets, a number of local microbreweries, and a bounty of unique architectural gems including several by Frank Lloyd Wright.


Midwife Job Requirements:

  • Comfort with practicing very autonomously as a midwife and utilizing full midwifery scope of practice, including newborn care

  • Knowledge and understanding of supporting physiologic childbirth in the community birth setting, including providing physical and emotional labor support

  • AMCB & NRP certification

  • Must be innovative, passionate, self-assured, and progressive

  • Confident new grads with training or experience as doulas, midwife assistants, or labor and delivery nurses welcome to apply
